Michael
Sloan spent several years working as a printmaker in Paris, France
and Venice, Italy before moving to New York City in 1989. His illustrations
first appeared on the Op-Ed page of The New York Times,
where he remains a frequent contributor. His award-winning work has been
recognized by American Illustration and the Communication
Arts Illustration Annual. His graphic novel The Heresy
of Professor Nimbus was awarded a silver medal from The
Society of Illustrators. He has taught classes in conceptual
illustration at The Rhode Island School of Design and
The University of Connecticut. His comics have appeared
in The Comics Journal, published by Fantagraphics.
While living in New York City, Michael played bass and guitar in bands
for many years. In between illustration assignments, he writes and records
songs in his home recording studio, issuing CD's of original material.
As a member of the all-illustrators jazz band The Half-Tones,
Michael performs regularly at The Society of Illustrators in New York
City.
